Hello, October! In addition to loving this month for all of the delightfully fall and frightfully fun vibes that it brings, it is also a month dedicated to something very, very special to my heart. 💜

Happy Italian American Heritage Month! 🇮🇹🇺🇸 First celebrated in 1989 by a special proclamation of both Congress and President George H. W. Bush, Italian American Heritage Month is dedicated to recognizing the significant contributions Italian Americans have made to this country and the world throughout our history.

Did you know, over five million Italians immigrated to the United States between 1820 and 2000 and currently, there are over 26 million Americans of Italian descent residing in the United States, making Italian Americans the fifth largest ethnic group in America?

Did you know that I am just the second generation to be raised here in the states on my Mom’s side, and third on my Dad’s? I am so proud of my Italian heritage, which traces back to the heart of Tuscany and up north in Ancona. Every time I speak Italian, I celebrate my heritage – and that was always my intention.

Never to be the stereotype, but the exception. The example. And to always carry with me the memories shared by my family members of their journey here to America. That is why we celebrate our heritage with every dish we make at Gene & Georgetti and why I love to plan weddings in Italy, and use my fluency in Italian to bring wedding dreams to life in a country that comprises such a large part of my heart. ✨

Allora, andiamo insieme a celebrare questo mese, e viva l’Italia! 🇮🇹
