My Commitment to Community & Global Change:Creating Impact Beyond the Plate

As a restaurant owner, event planner, and someone who deeply values community partnerships, I have always believed that hospitality extends beyond the walls of a dining room or the details of a beautifully designed event. It’s about creating experiences that bring people together—not just in celebration, but also in the shared responsibility of making our world a better place.

One of the ways I’ve been fortunate to do this is through Gene & Georgetti’s partnership with Surge for Water, an incredible nonprofit committed to providing sustainable, safe water access to communities around the world.

Why Water? A Global Crisis That Affects Us All

As someone deeply connected to both the restaurant industry and event planning, I understand firsthand how vital water is in every aspect of our daily lives. From the kitchen at Gene & Georgetti, where clean water is essential for preparing meals, to the grand celebrations I help bring to life through Michelle Durpetti Events, water is at the core of hospitality.

Yet, 2 billion people worldwide still lack access to safe drinking water. In communities where clean water is scarce, children miss school, women spend hours walking miles to fetch water, and families struggle with preventable diseases.

This is where organizations like Surge for Water step in, and where I am honored to lend my voice and support.

Gene & Georgetti x Surge for Water: A Partnership for Change

Through Gene & Georgetti, I’ve had the privilege of supporting over 75 non-profits each year, focusing on organizations that align with our values of community, sustainability, and meaningful impact. Our work with Surge for Water has been one of the most inspiring collaborations to date.

Some of the ways we’ve contributed include:

Restoring Access to Clean WaterWe helped repair and rehabilitate two wells in Uganda, ensuring that over 1,600 people have access to safe, clean drinking water.

Supporting Women & Girls – Through our involvement, we’ve contributed to menstrual health education programs, impacting 143 girls in Indonesia and 58 women and girls in Uganda—providing not just hygiene solutions, but also empowerment.

Amplifying Awareness on World Water Day – Each year, we use our platforms to shine a light on the importance of sustainable water solutions, encouraging others to get involved in global change.

Community, Collaboration & A Call to Action

My work in hospitality, event planning, and business ownership has always been rooted in the idea that we are stronger together. Whether I’m curating an unforgettable event, running a historic Italian steakhouse, or working with organizations like Surge for Water, my goal is the same: to create lasting, positive impact.

And the truth is—you don’t have to run a restaurant or plan events to make a difference. You can be a part of global change by donating, advocating, or even just sharing awareness.

Here’s how you can help today:

Support Surge for Water: Visit SurgeForWater.org to donate or learn more about their life-changing work.

Get Involved Locally: Support organizations that prioritize sustainability and clean water initiatives in your own community.

Be Mindful of Water Usage: Small actions—like reducing water waste at home or in your business—can have a big impact.

As we recognize World Water Day 2025, I’m reminded that giving back is a privilege—one that I hold close to my heart, whether it’s through Gene & Georgetti, Michelle Durpetti Events, or my personal mission to build a better world.

Here’s to hospitality with heart, and to using our platforms—whether in the dining room, at the event table, or on a global stage—to create meaningful change.

With gratitude,
Michelle Durpetti
