On June 9, I had the incredible honor of participating in the Festa della Repubblica celebration hosted by the Italian Consulate in Chicago. The evening, beautifully covered by Fra Noi, brought together more than 450 leaders, dignitaries, and community members to celebrate Italian pride, culture, and heritage.
The event was led by Consul General Mario Bartoli, and included presentations from Senator Francesca La Marca and Deputy Christian Diego Di Sanzo, along with greetings from Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. It was an extraordinary gathering of people who care deeply about fostering the bond between Italy and Chicago.
This night was particularly meaningful for me because I was bestowed the honor of Cavaliere — an incredible recognition that I will cherish forever. To receive this acknowledgment in the presence of so many people I admire, and alongside fellow honoree Georgia Marsh, was truly humbling.
I am also so proud that both of my worlds — Gene & Georgetti and Michelle Durpetti Events — could be a part of such a beautiful celebration. It was a joy to contribute alongside so many other Italian businesses and organizations that keep our traditions alive here in Chicago.
